Before you arrive
Bring the wound’s story — how long it’s been there, what’s been tried — plus your medication list and any diabetes or circulation history. If you’re on blood thinners or have had vascular studies, tell us or bring the reports.
Your first visit
We measure and photograph the wound to track it objectively, check the blood flow around it, and look for infection. Expect the visit to include cleaning and often debridement so healing can begin that day.
Your closure plan
You’ll leave with a plan naming why the wound isn’t healing — pressure, infection, poor circulation, or blood sugar — and what we’re doing about each one, including the exact dressing and how often to change it.
Weekly progress checks
Most wounds are seen about once a week so we can debride, change the approach if it stalls, and measure whether it’s actually shrinking. You’ll see the numbers, not just hear that it looks better.
Coordinated care

When does a wound need a wound-care specialist?

Do I need a referral for wound care?

Can you save a diabetic foot and prevent amputation?
Often, yes — especially when we start early. Most diabetic foot amputations begin as an ulcer that could have been treated. By offloading pressure, controlling infection, restoring blood flow where possible, and working with your diabetes care, we close many wounds that would otherwise threaten the foot. We can’t promise every case, but early, aggressive treatment is what tips the odds in your favor.
How often will I be seen for a wound?
Most patients come in about once a week so we can debride the wound, adjust the plan, and measure progress. Some fast-changing or infected wounds need to be seen more often at first. As the wound heals and stabilizes, visits space out.
Does insurance or Medicare cover wound care?
Yes. Wound care is a covered medical service under most commercial plans, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage, including debridement, dressings applied in the office, and follow-up visits. What are the signs a wound is infected and I should call?
